Morning With The Magpie’s... And Other Mystical Musings

Ahhh, Friday morning (7/23/21)...

I awaken to crisp mountain air ... 42 is what the weather app says but I think it’s closer to 50. Such a refreshing feeling waking up on a cool morning compared to where it’s been lately.

Smoke is still lingering on the nearby mountain range, created by the ongoing wildfires in the west... and the sky is hazy but the Magpie’s are back and as vocal as ever.

As I opened the front door to let in some cool air, I spotted one!

I love that magical feeling✨... seeing one from nature, first thing in the morning. It brings me such a joyful feeling in my belly.

Makes me feel as if I’m at one with them... and reminds me just how grateful I am to be here... here in “the last best place”, as they call it.

I had an urge to grab my camera, but then reminded myself to remain in the moment for just a bit longer, take in this special time to just observe. I watched him squawk and bound around then fly off.

I greeted the ‘Sun Goddess’ (Our Core Lodge Mascot) and started my morning routine, but then the Magpie came back... and then another and another and I thought, “I gotta grab my camera!”, now.

I watched them talking to each other as if deciding what to do and where to go next, they hang out in groups most often referred to as:

“A Parliament”

The birds have earned this title from often appearing in large groups in the spring, looking stately and cawing at each other.”

They flew off over the roof and I took to the back yard...

They spread out almost in a circle around me sending their calls ... two long calls then another would respond back with two short squawks. It was loud and I felt protected within their circle somehow, part of the pack almost... it gave me a tingle.

One flew in and landed on the step below me... so close as I scrambled to get my lens on him and then whooosh.... the ‘Sun Goddess’ runs from behind and right at the Magpie, chasing him away... ha haha , she’s excited too!

After this wonderful experience, I wanted to know more about the Magpie. I’ve seen this group before and they frequent our area year after year.

A highly intellegent bird, the Magpie has such a presence... a big bird with a long tail and striking colors of black, white and a beautiful iridescence of blue & green. It’s also a relative to my favorite bird, the Raven.

My husband calls them Oreo birds... ”Hey, Les, the Oreo birds are back”, he would say... and I tend to agree, they do look like flying Oreo’s! Makes me crave some of those delicious childhood favorites!

(Full Disclosure: I did break down and buy a box in honor of our feathered friends... my husband was more than happy to devour them!! It’s rare that we indulge in processed goods and as a self proclaimed “sugar fiend”, he’d never refuse them.)

“The magpie is associated with omens, prophecy and divination. When magpie comes into your life, it might be time to start strengthening these aspects in your spiritual life, or alternatively it might be time to start paying attention to the omens, dreams and hunches you might be getting.

It is an excellent muse for those who are creative with words. In addition to this, magpie - with its complex language of body and vocalisations - represents the significance of voice. It is time to understand the impact of your voice and your speech upon others, and the impact of other people's speech, tone and words on yourself.

It is a greatly magical creature, and tends to confer spiritual protection upon you once it enters your life.“

Wow!! This rings true as I had very visual dreams last night and colorful visions as I was falling asleep and waking this morning. I’m clairvoyant by nature and have had this sense my whole life but when it comes in so strongly, I feel its such a special gift. A gift that I need to give more attention to and develop to it’s fullest potential. Also and maybe more importantly, I keep receiving the message to share my knowledge through my voice. What a wonderful sign and one of many validations. Signs are everywhere along our path, if we stop, take a moment to look, feel and listen, they will reveal themselves to us.

Fun info ✨✨✨

- I saw three Magpie this morning which means, “Good Journey”.

- Husband saw four on another day of this week which means, “New Beginning”.

As I go on about my morning, making breakfast for Husband and ‘Sun Goddess’, I spotted the Magpie’s flying off out over the lake together. I wished them a good day and know that I’ll see them again, probably soon too. (Yep! Saw them a couple more times this week!)

Tonight is the beginning of the full “Buck Moon” (in honor of our beloved Buck “Gimpy”)... I’ll be keeping my eye out for it.

In the meantime,

love & light to you,

Leslie
